Hello beautiful people,

Just wanted to let you know that if I don't comment or drop by for the next few weeks, it's because I'll be living out my dream doing conservation work in NEW ZEALAND! For the most part I'll be working in a small town on the west coast of the South Island, so I'm not sure what my internet access will be like. As a long-time Lord of the Rings fan, this is the trip of a lifetime for me and I honestly couldn't be more excited. Can't wait to show you pictures when I get back. :D

Hey flist!

I've been having a surprisingly active social life for the past few months, so I haven't been around here for a while - hope everyone's doing alright. :D Anyway, I was wondering if someone could please explain to me what the big deal with dreamwidth is? What is it, and why does everyone seem to be converting? Has LJ fucked up again? (More so then usual, I mean?)

ETA: Torchwood Season 3? Please tell me it hasn't already started without my knowledge?

Oh wow.

Just got back from Coraline, and I absolutely loved it. The animation, the music, the whimsical darkness of the brilliant, brilliant story... I swear to God, Neil Gaiman is the Lord of All Things Modern Fantasy. I really just can't even process his genius sometimes. I can't believe I didn't know he was in Toronto a couple of weeks ago asdafsgsgghjk

The 3-D aspect was pretty cool too, although I admit I miss those retro red-and-blue glasses ala Ten in the S2 Finale. ;p

I'm also super excited for 9, even though I didn't know much about it until seeing the preview tonight. Tim Burton and Elijah Wood asdfghjk!

Self-pimping meme and an ETA

I would like to propose a self-pimping fic meme. I do try to keep up with my flist as much as possible, but obviously I haven't read everything,  (particularly in the case of my new friends) and I thought this might be fun. It's simple. Just comment and link me to your favourite thing you've written, something unappreciated but awesome, or even just a work you're really proud of and would like to share. Humour me? :D

Also, you know that theory I had, a couple entries back, about RTD writing everything Merlin?

IS THIS NOT PROOF? )

New people!

AHAHAHAHA. Flist, I love you guys so much. Way to EXPLODE MY INTERNETS with news of 11. :D  My thoughts? He seems interesting enough, and therefore I remain optimistic as to his performance. Also, you can't go wrong with being a History Boys vet. ;p  Mind you, if they keep this up, the next Doctor is going to be barely past puberty...lol

Also, a very warm welcome to all the new, fantastic people from the Havemercy and Merlin friending memes! <3 You can find out a bit more about me here, and I look forward to getting to know you all. :)

Talking with some of you has also rekindled my love of some of my older fandoms, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to merge journals? I would love to be able to take that final step in combining what's left of my LOTR/ LOTR RPS fandom journal with this one, if possible.

Lastly, while trying to catch up with things, I stumbled upon [info]ocelotspots 's evidence of Bradley James crossdressing and I CANNOT UNSEE IT. o_0

What does Auld Lang Syne mean anyway?

Happy New Year, everyone! :D

I had the most unproductive writing year ever, hahaha fail, but I'm going to blame most of that on my Creative Writing class that killed my fanfiction muses for several excruciating months. *shrugs*

In completely unrelated news, I finally watched David Tennant's Casanova the other night, which I am completely and utterly in love with. Everyone should watch it, it is such fun. :D My sister called it gratuitous porn a number of times, but thankfully shut up after I called her a great prude.  I was writing stuff like this when I was her age, whatever that says about me.

Half way through the film, I found myself wondering why he (Casanova) reminded me so much of the Doctor. And then I realized that the script was written by Russel T. Davies.

I have this theory, see, that EVERYTHING I WATCH is secretly written by RTD. It would explain a lot of things. The gay in Merlin, for one.

Oh Dumbledore, you old perv

So, I'm reading The Tales of Beedle the Bard, in which all the charming little fairy tales are accompanied by Dumbledore's commentary. Some of these commentaries tell us about the social-political history of muggles, others mention wonderful little details about the wizarding world (There's a wizarding Drama school! Hogwarts once put on a Christmas pantomime!), but then I came across this:

My maiden aunt, Honoria, always alleged that she called off her engagement to a wizard in the Improper Use of Magic Office because she discovered in time that "he had a hairy heart". (It was rumoured, however, that she actually discovered him in the act of fondling some Horklumps (4), which she found deeply shocking.)

Why are exams not over yet?

Watching Who reruns, and well... It's funny how much more attractive Jethro seems post-Merlin, with his painted nails and emo-hair. Is it sad that I'm more jealous of his few lines with David Tennant than the fact that he has his own TV show?

Merlin plotlines

  • Dec. 15th, 2008 at 4:17 PM

I really do have the most terrible habit of falling into fandoms in the middle of exams. Last year's spring finals it was Heroes, before that it was Torchwood, and now, in the span of three most important weeks of my semester I seem to have fallen for Merlin.

I have to say, though, that while the show is addicting and dorky and the prince and warlock have difficulty suppressing their great epic love for each other, I can't help face-palming at how obvious the plot-lines are. I mean, I understand that the series is episodic, and that there's nothing wrong with a little bit of cheese, but I can't help but feel that a good number of the episodes go something like this:

The Idiot's Guide to Writing a Merlin Episode )

...the lengths I will go to in order to avoid studying.

Also, I have to admit that I was rather disappointed by the finale. The stakes really didn't seem that high when Arthur almost dies on a regular basis. Plus I found the imminent-character-death musical chairs to be a bit tiresome, but maybe that's just me. :/ Also Merlin, I did not know it was possible to try to sacrifice your life so many times in forty minutes.

WHY is David Tennant leaving Doctor Who?! I'm not even going to try to hide the fact that I'm really rather upset about this. I mean, I can understand his personal decision as an actor to move on, and I'm excited to see what 11 will be like, but imho, Tennant was absolutely fucking amazing as The Doctor, and I don't know how anyone is going to live up to that. (Also, I've really grown to love him.)  Needless to say, he'll be sorely missed. :(

In Ten's own words: "You were brilliant." Thanks for the great run. <3

I just wish I could see him in Hamlet!!

Aloha from Hawaii! And Happy 4th of July to my American friends!

Limited internet time here*, so I'll try to be brief. I'm here in the Aloha state taking a long-awaited vacation from all the stress that is school and city life, opting instead to lounge around by the beach and drink little fruity cocktails with umbrellas all day long. :D Seriously though, there is so much to do here, and I'm having an awesome time. I've been busy surfing (well, with varying degrees of sucess), ziplining, learning to hula (you wouldn't believe how some of those guys and girls can shake their hips), taking helicopter rides through the mountains (right after I read that bit with Rook, Have and the Colbalts, too!) and, just recently, I conquered a volcano.

It's funny - I originally called to try to book a spot on a tour group that bikes down from the 100 000 ft. Mount Doom Haleakala at dawn, but when I asked if there had been any accidents in the past, the woman over the phone said: "Oh no. Well. There was this one girl who fell into the crater of the volcano and died, but she didn't listen to instructions very well." o_0 Needless to say, I didn't go with that group. I ended up going exploring on my own, and it was an an absolutely incredible experience. You can actually walk down an old horse-path into a part of the crater, and stand in 13 000 feet down, surrounded by lava rocks, stray clouds and red sand for as far as the eye can see. Really, really stunning.

In other news, I've finished reading Havemercy. Fantastic read pretty much all around, even though I do have a few issues with things such as Hal's characterization (don't kill me, I love him too) which I hope to post about in more detail later, around which time I will also be catching up with my flist. Again. (Stop distracting me with lists of pretty people, [info]molly_commas! Limited internet time! Limited!)

In the meantime, however, I have a meme:

When you see this post, quote something from Doctor Who on your LJ.

"Tracked you down with this. This is my timey-wimey detector. Goes ding when there's stuff. Also, it can boil an egg at 30 paces. Whether you want it to or not, actually, so I've learned to stay away from hens. It's not pretty when they blow." - The Doctor, Blink

I HAS A BARROWMAN

After a several long weeks of varied and accumulated forms of bullshit, I'm finally back to the land of LJ. I plan on spending the next few days writing some long-delayed crap, reading more Sandman (<-- check this out, it is awesome), catching up on all that is catch-up-able and commenting on all of your very old entries. :D

MORE IMPORTANTLY, HOWEVER.

I met John Barrowman today! He was at the CBC building doing a promo thing for that New Singing Show he's judging - How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? - and my friend and I were lucky enough to see him, get some autographs and take some truly unflattering candid photos of him. It's funny, because in the back of my mind I sort of wanted to form some sort of intelligent comment about Torchwood and Who and how Jack should kiss 10, because 9 got some and there should be continuity mhm , but after we saw him all I could do was sort of stare and grin at him. In a similar absence of thought/coherence, my friend left the building with a cry of "I touched Captain Jack's man-boob!". I suppose he has that effect on people. ;p

But yeah, he was charming and gorgeous and surprisingly shorter than expected, and I will probably have more to say about all this tommorow, because it totally fucking made my day. :D

Regarding this:

"To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll...More of A question, really.  Not THE question. Because, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?"

- Neil Gaiman as The Tenth Doctor as Hamlet

After days of unsucessfully trying to recapture my Muse, I finally stumbled across a burst of artistic inspiration today. Why it had to come in the form of two pidgeons humping on the sidewalk, I'm not so sure.

So here I am, valiantly trying to write porn read fic make up some ridiculous plot outline for Writer's Craft at 1:51 in the morning when I am suddenly scared shitless by the sound of dinosaurs mauling each other in my backyard.

It took me a whole two to three minutes to remember that dinosaurs are, in fact, quite tragically extinct, and that what I heard was probably nothing more than a couple of angry racoons beating each other up over the last half-eaten chicken nugget in the rubbish bin.

But racoons don't make these terrifying roaring-clawing-moaning sounds akin to something straight out of Jurrasic Park. Chicken nuggets or otherwise, it just can't be possible. Can it? Perhaps they have some sort of disease? Oh god I have rabid raccoons.

I do realize this is a terribly poor excuse for an IRL post. I'm getting on it, honest...
