Just wanted to let you know that if I don't comment or drop by for the next few weeks, it's because I'll be living out my dream doing conservation work in NEW ZEALAND! For the most part I'll be working in a small town on the west coast of the South Island, so I'm not sure what my internet access will be like. As a long-time Lord of the Rings fan, this is the trip of a lifetime for me and I honestly couldn't be more excited. Can't wait to show you pictures when I get back. :D

I've been having a surprisingly active social life for the past few months, so I haven't been around here for a while - hope everyone's doing alright. :D Anyway, I was wondering if someone could please explain to me what the big deal with dreamwidth is? What is it, and why does everyone seem to be converting? Has LJ fucked up again? (More so then usual, I mean?)
ETA: Torchwood Season 3? Please tell me it hasn't already started without my knowledge?
Just got back from Coraline, and I absolutely loved it. The animation, the music, the whimsical darkness of the brilliant, brilliant story... I swear to God, Neil Gaiman is the Lord of All Things Modern Fantasy. I really just can't even process his genius sometimes.
The 3-D aspect was pretty cool too, although I admit I miss those retro red-and-blue glasses ala Ten in the S2 Finale. ;p
I'm also super excited for 9, even though I didn't know much about it until seeing the preview tonight. Tim Burton and Elijah Wood asdfghjk!
Also, you know that theory I had, a couple entries back, about RTD writing
( IS THIS NOT PROOF? )

Also, a very warm welcome to all the new, fantastic people from the Havemercy and Merlin friending memes! <3 You can find out a bit more about me here, and I look forward to getting to know you all. :)
Talking with some of you has also rekindled my love of some of my older fandoms, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to merge journals? I would love to be able to take that final step in combining what's left of my LOTR/ LOTR RPS fandom journal with this one, if possible.
Lastly, while trying to catch up with things, I stumbled upon
I had the most unproductive writing year ever,
In completely unrelated news, I finally watched David Tennant's Casanova the other night, which I am completely and utterly in love with. Everyone should watch it, it is such fun. :D My sister called it gratuitous porn a number of times, but thankfully shut up after I called her a great prude.
Half way through the film, I found myself wondering why he (Casanova) reminded me so much of the Doctor. And then I realized that the script was written by Russel T. Davies.
I have this theory, see, that EVERYTHING I WATCH is secretly written by RTD. It would explain a lot of things.

My maiden aunt, Honoria, always alleged that she called off her engagement to a wizard in the Improper Use of Magic Office because she discovered in time that "he had a hairy heart". (It was rumoured, however, that she actually discovered him in the act of fondling some Horklumps (4), which she found deeply shocking.)

Title: A Peripheral Vision
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Remus/Sirius
Written for:
coldneedles
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: mental health conditions
A/N.: Thanks to my wonderfully helpful and supportive beta,
blackliquorice .
Summary: Set in Cambridge at the end of the century, Remus and Sirius struggle to exist in a society that refuses to accept them.
Watching Who reruns, and well... It's funny how much more attractive Jethro seems post-Merlin, with his painted nails and emo-hair. Is it sad that I'm more jealous of his few lines with David Tennant than the fact that he has his own TV show?

I have to say, though, that while the show is addicting and dorky and the prince and warlock have difficulty suppressing their great epic love for each other, I can't help face-palming at how obvious the plot-lines are. I mean, I understand that the series is episodic, and that there's nothing wrong with a little bit of cheese, but I can't help but feel that a good number of the episodes go something like this:
( The Idiot's Guide to Writing a Merlin Episode )
...the lengths I will go to in order to avoid studying.
Also, I have to admit that I was rather disappointed by the finale. The stakes really didn't seem that high when Arthur almost dies on a regular basis. Plus I found the imminent-character-death musical chairs to be a bit tiresome, but maybe that's just me. :/ Also Merlin, I did not know it was possible to try to sacrifice your life so many times in forty minutes.

nk_aoede, inspired by her gorgeous piece “Clandestine,” even though I’m sure she had something completely different in mind when she drew it. ;p I know you have a thing for Regulus/James, so I thought I'd give it a try. Sorry this is rather rusty; I haven’t written anything without a thesis in ages. ;p
WHY is David Tennant leaving Doctor Who?! I'm not even going to try to hide the fact that I'm really rather upset about this. I mean, I can understand his personal decision as an actor to move on, and I'm excited to see what 11 will be like, but imho, Tennant was absolutely fucking amazing as The Doctor, and I don't know how anyone is going to live up to that. (Also, I've really grown to love him.) Needless to say, he'll be sorely missed. :(
In Ten's own words: "You were brilliant." Thanks for the great run. <3
I just wish I could see him in Hamlet!!

Aloha from Hawaii! And Happy 4th of July to my American friends!
Limited internet time here*, so I'll try to be brief. I'm here in the Aloha state taking a long-awaited vacation from all the stress that is school and city life, opting instead to lounge around by the beach and drink little fruity cocktails with umbrellas all day long. :D Seriously though, there is so much to do here, and I'm having an awesome time. I've been busy surfing (well, with varying degrees of sucess), ziplining, learning to hula (you wouldn't believe how some of those guys and girls can shake their hips), taking helicopter rides through the mountains (right after I read that bit with Rook, Have and the Colbalts, too!) and, just recently, I conquered a volcano.
It's funny - I originally called to try to book a spot on a tour group that bikes down from the 100 000 ft. Mount
In other news, I've finished reading Havemercy. Fantastic read pretty much all around, even though I do have a few issues with things such as Hal's characterization (don't kill me, I love him too) which I hope to post about in more detail later, around which time I will also be catching up with my flist. Again.
In the meantime, however, I have a meme:
Reply to this post with the answers to these questions so that I can get to know you better. Then post it on your journal so you can get to know your flist.
Finally, REAL LIFE MPREG WHAT.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, HOWEVER.
I met John Barrowman today! He was at the CBC building doing a promo thing for that New Singing Show he's judging - How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? - and my friend and I were lucky enough to see him, get some autographs and take some truly unflattering candid photos of him. It's funny, because in the back of my mind I sort of wanted to form some sort of intelligent comment about Torchwood and Who
But yeah, he was charming and gorgeous and surprisingly shorter than expected, and I will probably have more to say about all this tommorow, because it totally fucking made my day. :D
Regarding this:
"To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll...More of A question, really. Not THE question. Because, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?"

It took me a whole two to three minutes to remember that dinosaurs are, in fact, quite tragically extinct, and that what I heard was probably nothing more than a couple of angry racoons beating each other up over the last half-eaten chicken nugget in the rubbish bin.
But racoons don't make these terrifying roaring-clawing-moaning sounds akin to something straight out of Jurrasic Park. Chicken nuggets or otherwise, it just can't be possible. Can it? Perhaps they have some sort of disease?
I do realize this is a terribly poor excuse for an IRL post. I'm getting on it, honest...
